Volunteer Information for the Alamance NAACP’s Church-Based Voter Registration Drives

The Alamance Branch of the NAACP is sponsoring four weeks of church-based community voter registration drives. Our program is part of Moral Freedom Summer, a statewide voter empowerment campaign sponsored by the Youth and College Division of the NC NAACP.

Members of the Alamance Branch’s Religious Affairs and Political Action Committees and members of four host churches in Alamance County will sponsor weeknight registration drives, September 15th through October 10th, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at the four host churches. During these church-based registration drives, we will also send teams of volunteers to canvass door-to-door in the nearby neighborhoods, pairing experienced volunteers with new volunteers.

Our goals are to register new voters, update registrations, and encourage voter participation. We will also provide information to voters on: changes in election laws; specifics on days, times, and locations for voting; and the voting records of their representatives.

We suggest that anyone interested in participating in our registration drives commit to one evening a week for the four weeks. Branch members will train and accompany volunteers on door-to-door canvassing. If these times and days are not convenient for individual volunteers, we also host Saturday afternoon canvassing from 2:00-5:00 pm. We will provide any necessary voter registration supplies, but we encourage participants to bring water, comfortable shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. To register to volunteer for this program, please contact Noah Read, at attentionalamance@gmail.com or call 336.260.4399.

The following churches will be participating:
Life’s Journey UCC, at 1908 S. Mebane St., Burlington, NC: Sept. 15th-19th
Union Chapel UCC, at 5087 Union Ridge Rd, Burlington, NC: Sept. 22-26th
Elon Community UCC, at 271 N Williamson Ave, Elon, NC: Sept. 29th-Oct 3
First Baptist, at 508 Apple St., Burlington, NC Oct 6th-9th

Thank you for joining us in this campaign to promote greater participation in our elections.
