June 22, 2015, Burlington’s St. Matthews AME church, pastored by Rev. Patrice Fields, hosted the local community for a prayer vigil following the murder of nine members of the Emanuel AME Church, in Charleston, SC. This event was organized by community groups, including the Alamance NAACP. Attendees and speakers joined together in love and pledged defiance against hate and racism.
“Hopefully, this will be a starting point for a deeper conversation about race in the community.” – Alamance NAACP President Barrett Brown.
